So, how was your weekend?
I enjoyed the heck out of mine. Took a day off Friday, and started the day with a walk in the botanical garden with my friend Linda. Flowers are just busting out all over. A friendly blue Jay led us down the garden path for a ways.
Later I ran some errands with DD, her boyfriend and doggie, then we went to the beach.
Saturday I took a hike on miles of coastal bluffs south of here with my friend Mary Ann and we saw whale spouts galore. GALORE. It was galorious! So many of them cavorting really close to shore, like there was a long band of yummy sardines close to the surface. We read later we are being visited by humpbacks. We didn’t have binocs but it still was very cool.
Sunday, a visit to the SF MOMA with my pal J. I think the highlight for me was the espresso and brownie from the cafe in the sculpture garden. And today, a beautiful day in the ballpark, and the Giants continued their winning ways.
My job has been really getting to me lately. I'm thinking about moving my retirement date sooner, like in a few months. Maybe I'll change my mind but right now it just sucks. Anyway I'm not looking forward to going there tomorrow, and I really appreciated having this long weekend.
Today I'm thinking about my dad and his long service in the Navy. I might have told this story before, but when I was a little kid living in Virginia, when my dad was working in the Pentagon, he took me one Memorial Day to Arlington Cemetery and held me up on his shoulders to watch President Kennedy lay a wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier. That particularly stuck with me, because he used to say he wouldn't cross the street to see so-and-so, whoever the famous person was. He was not a fan boy kind of guy. I lit a candle for his Yahrzeit last week. 30 years and I miss him every day.
