Biden says the one, simple, true thing about the Gaza war.
I’m proud of him of saying it.
It’s the thing that drives me up the wall with respect to all the “reporting” about the conflict. If Hamas really wanted this to end, they would agree to release all the hostages (alive and dead), and it would be done. But Hamas doesn’t want it to end, which gives Bibi (who is clinging to power) and his awful government (which includes domestic terrorists as ministers) all the excuses they need to “change reality on the ground”.
This works well for both of them — Hamas, the murderous terrorist organization can continue to justify its existence and even (shockingly, IMO) gain support from the ignorant Tiktok masses who, due to a concerted and successful propaganda campaign have somehow convinced themselves that Hamas is some sort of people’s revolutionary organization; and this twisted Israeli government, harboring people in key positions who aren’t even hiding their intent anymore and would be quite happy to engage in genocide (which Israel isn’t...yet, anyway) and have already racked up eminently prosecutable war crimes to their names.
(note the absence of the Oxford Comma, and please avoid mentally inserting one)
Then again, the international system is justice is being torn apart, and if Putin can do it…
The victims? Israelis and Palestinians who are pawns in this awful game. Like my mom, in Haifa, and my friend’s in-law, in the west bank, and pretty much everyone in Gaza except Hamas and Jihadic Islam and their ilk.
I wish we could toss them all in the ring with Ben-Gvir and Smotrich and their people and while they’re duking it out, quietly close the door and leave the building.
