Any one who has visited Facing South, TPM or dailykos is well aware the irregularities surrounding Women' Voices Women's Vote group and the issues surrounding these repetitive violations of not just the law, but of common sense.
Say what you will about the matter: I think Facing South did a great job at revealing the facts..
There is a clear pattern of activity of providing bogus information, as outlined on that diary above. These are not 'tin foil' claims; these involve in many cases either law enforcement or authorized officials inside the Democratic Party structure making statements to try to straighten the messes made by WVWV robo calls.
Now, we may argue about whether these events that span 12 States, and involve potentially millions of votes already cast were a result of gross incompetence or outright criminality. But one thing is for certain: hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent [if not more] to place robo-calls to people which could not have had the desired effect.
What's this diary about? Take the jump.
As I said, people can draw different conclusions from this story, but the important part is that it is newsworthy. There's more than enough information from a dozen States to provide a clear narrative for a reporter to make. It's an important story, in light of the criminal convictions in my State, NH from the 2002 Sununu phone jamming scandal.
So far, from what I can google up,
ABC has a short segment on this:
http://www.abcnews.go.com/...
Election watchdogs say the group's track record of missteps, first uncovered by the Institute of Southern Studies, is surprising considering its connections to several well-experienced political operatives, including former Clinton White House chief of staff John Podesta.
NPR has had a more detailed and scathing report:
http://www.npr.org/...
Will Evans of the Center for Investigative Reporting , who collaborated in reporting this story, found some Obama backers among the Women's Voices leadership, but the group mostly has ties to Clinton and her campaign. Gardner worked on former President Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign. Board member John Podesta was President Clinton's chief-of-staff. Maggie Williams, Hillary Clinton's campaign manager, used to be on the Women's Voices leadership team and did consulting work for the group.
Ny Post
http://www.nypost.com/...
Roy Cooper, the North Carolina AG, said this week he had put a stop to the calls, which spurred allegations that the women's group was trying to confuse black voters, who overwhelmingly support Barack Obama over Hillary Rodham Clinton.
The calls urged people to register, even though the deadline for the primary was April 11.
The group has said it was a genuine mistake, and that it was trying to boost turnout for November's general election.
Some bloggers had suggested it was done deliberately to boost Clinton, noting that her campaign manager, Maggie Williams, was once on the board of the women's group.
The AP has a short and distorted [and dishonest] report
http://ap.google.com/...
NC group sorry for misleading calls on voting in primary
2 days ago
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A group whose automated phone calls to North Carolina residents provided misleading information about voting in Tuesday's primary election apologized and said it will stop making the calls.
Other less popular sources have more detailed discussion about this. Wired, Salon, which is quite apparently doing it's best to bury the story and a few other places have some of the story.
Other than the short ABC piece, there is zero coverage of this on Fox, CNN, MSNBC, CBS .. but yet we do see that Micky Kantor is splattered all over the front pages of web sites about things he said in 1992.
Fascinating, isn't it that a woman like Page Gardner who has "twenty years experience as a political and communications manager and strategist, Ms. Gardner has worked at senior levels for the most competitive presidential, senatorial, gubernatorial, and congressional campaigns in all parts of the country." is given a free pass by the corporate media.
I'm calling out some journalists by name, by the companies they work for right now.
NYT.
The Old Grey Lady.
Do you have someone on this story? Why, with all of the previous complaints in a dozen States is there not one article by the New York Times about WVWV or Page Gardner? Not one word about this, as of right now. Couldn't even find the bogus AP report.
Boston Globe. My 'local' paper. The one I 'trust'.
Who I thought I could count to report everything.
Other than the piece of shit AP story, there is NOTHING at the Boston Globe about this story.
Why?
The clear pattern of complaints, affecting millions of votes across 12 States and two print media sources that I used to trust have nothing to say. Something is terribly wrong here.
Who is behind suppressing this story?
