We're all in GOTV mode, and of course the Village elite cannot shut up about Democrats are just two days away from getting their asses kicked.
Blah blah, center-right nation, blah blah liberal overreach, bipartisan, triangulate, Tea Party, GOP Wave, etc.
We here have learned to take all this crap with a salt shaker full of salt, but of course these are the narratives that we're being sold by Big Corporate and FAUX NEWZ.
So when I hop onto Blue Virginia, I see a new piece which yet again adds another chink into the armor of the pre-ordained narrative.
A piece up today by the campaign manager for a candidate named Wynne Legrow who is challenging incumbent Randy Forbes in the 4th district in Virginia tells a tale of how he has seen the vaunted "enthusiasm gap" vanish into thin air.
Two days ago the 10% Republican advantage in early voting shrunk to 2%. Today, it's gone. That's right - in Virginia's 4th Congressional District, more identified Democrats have voted early than Republicans. The much-hyped "enthusiasm gap" disappeared before my eyes in just seven days.
To hear this tale, it sounds almost unbelievable.
A 10% advantage dropping to 2% and then to 0% in the span of days.
This is big news. Not just for Dr. LeGrow but for Democrats across Virginia and the country. It's true, Republicans were more enthusiastic just about all year long - but Democrats are coming home - they're voting, and momentum is on our side. If we've caught up in the 4th District, which went narrowly for Obama in 2008, there's no reason to believe the same can't be said of Tom Perriello, Glenn Nye, Rick Boucher, Gerry Connolly, Krystal Ball, Rick Waugh, and Jeff Barnett!
I think Mr. Elias makes a great point. I drive through the 4th district relatively often for my job, and quite frankly I have seen exactly 0 signs for Legrow for Congress.
I've seen a bunch for Forbes for Congress, however.
If a lesser-known Democratic candidate - who I must add, actually has on the front page of his website that he is a Democrat - is bringing in the voters in a district where probably nobody expects any other outcome other than Randy Forbes keeping his seat...I think this does in fact bode well for other Virginia Democrats as well.
Like Tom "Super Progressive" Perriello in the 5th.
Like Rick Waugh in VA-07 who has Eric Cantor in his sights
and yes...
Even my own Congressman - Glenn Nye in VA-02 who is neck-and-neck with a used car salesman to keep his seat.
All of these candidates would be supremely better to the Republicans that are gunning for their seats.
Yes, even Glenn Nye. Yes, I know what I've said about him. But I've had the sense knocked into me. Glenn Nye is a decent man and while imperfect, we must deny the Tea Partiers and their favored candidate in Scott Rigell a win in VA-02.
Help these worthy candidates out.
Prove the Village, the Beltway, the Beckster, the Banksters, the Teabaggers, and everyone else who knew how the 2010 election was going to go.
Go out and vote. As soon as you can.
Send the lunatics back to the asylum where they belong, not to the halls of Congress.
Yes. We. Can!
