Dear John McCain,
For the most part I though your concession speech last night was gracious, well written and well delivered. In fact, for me it was probably the best I'd heard from you in this election. Unfortunately, the knuckleheads in your audience couldn't restrain themselves from their boos and catcalls each time Obama's name was mentioned. You, as candidate, bear a weight of responsibility for permitting such bad behavior to become a regular feature of your rallies. I suppose the part where you said about your victorious opponent "no association is more important than being an American" is the closest we will ever get to an apology for the shameful Ayers, Wright, and Osama Bin Laden slurs. Well, Mr. McCain, apology not accepted. You crossed a line when you called my party's standard-bearer a Muslim extremist, a commie, a terrorist, and a traitor. Slurs like that, repeated over and over during the course of months cannot be rescinded. They have real, lasting consequences for which you will bear much responsibility. With your dangerously hateful lies you opened the door to a new era of violent right-wing hate. If, as I suspect, the next President of the United States has to deal with domestic as well as foreign terrorists you will bear much of the blame.
