Yesterday I suggested that Troy, Michigan's mayor Janice Daniels was the Worst Mayor in the World. Today I need your help removing this intolerant, ignorant and incompetent mayor from office.

She told high school kids of a Gay Straight Alliance club that being gay was a "dangerous lifestyle". She posted on facebook, "I think I am going to throw away my I Love New York carrying bag now that queers can get married there" earning her a spot on Olbermann's Worst Person in the World and much much more.

We got her up for a recall but we need about $2,000 for one last absentee mailer. Can you please help? Many small donations can make a big difference especially if we get a few $25,$50 or $100 donations too. If you support Marriage Equality, dislike the Tea Party and what MLK Jr. called "sincere ignorance", or want to strike back against politicians like Scott Walker in Florida who tried to stop stimulus spending from saving our economy, Donate Now!

I have an idea question and I need your help. I believe we kossacks should determine who is the Worst Mayor in America in an effort to raise the profile of those who are up for re-election or recall and energize the efforts of the progressives / liberals to remove them from office.

The focus of the scoring is intended to be job performance aside from criminal behavior. The WMIA “contest” has to do with the competency or lack there of. Corrupt officials are subject to criminal prosecution and the Golden Dukes Award. Incompetent officials are the subject to blog posts and recall.

The Troy Public Library will close August 5th unless the citizens of Troy, Michigan pass a dedicated millage. In most cities this would be no big deal, here in Troy there is a well financed anti-tax group that actively works to undermine the efforts of library supporters by any means necessary. With your help we will defeat them with this simple message: if you want a reliable library you have to fund it reliably.

If you are like me the Daily Howler is a daily must read. It is not only one of the oldest media watch blogs, it is also one of the best. Starting back in 1998 before Media Matters or the Great Orange Satan the Daily Howler was standing by, keyboard at the ready, to warn us of the status quo talking points or simply destructive gossip (ala Maureen Dowd) the mainstream media was trying to pass off as news or "analysis". For over 11 years Bob Somerby has done this without donations and advertising, and now on the cusp of one of most important projects to date, he is asking for us to support him.

In the run up to his new book, "How He Got There, the press corps' war against Candidate Gore: How George W. Bush reached the White House", he is launching a companion blog and asking the netroots for some support. If he is successful this book has the potential to force the media to account for the outright lies they created and amplified that handed the Presidency to George W. Bush on a silver platter.

Out of all the large multinational oil companies BP seems to go the greatest lengths to make itself appear environmentally sensitive. Their actions are proving that their ad slogan, "We make the World a little Better" is nothing more than empty PR rhetoric.

BP has recently received permission from the State of Indiana to substantially increase the amount of ammonia and toxic heavy metals such as mercury, lead and nickel it can dump into the Great Lakes.

NPR's All Things Considered had an itemyesterday about the proposed expansion of BP's Whiting, Indiana refinery, and the "firestorm of opposition" the plan is starting to generate.
