Since things can often seem overwhelming in the news, I wanted to share with you an inspiring story that I came across this week.

I surprised to receive a cosplay entry over at www.almostnerdy.com for a little girl a couple of weeks ago. Generally, we have an unofficial rule here that features should be 18 or older but I reached out to her mom since she took the time to enter. To say that what I received in return was a bit unexpected. Jacquelyn was funny, articulate and a budding interviewer (watch out Barbara Walters!).

I hope you take the time to get all the way through and see how Jacquelyn's mother feels Star Wars has changed her life. The more I read this, the more I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I sent some emails, I responded to some more. I have no idea whether or not I can play a part in helping Jacquelyn score the interview of a life time but I plan to try. I am crossposting here in the event that any one is out there in Koslandia is able to help me. I love my home. Although I wished I owned my own, no matter where I live, I make it my own. After years of living in large places, downsizing allowed me to choose only the things I love and cherish them. In today's society that thrives on reality television, I think the idea of this has diminshed a great deal. So many people need crisis as a distraction and things as comfort. I hope that people wake up this morning and look at this squarely in the face and recognize the shift that needs to occur, both in themselves and this country.

After a comment on last night’s Glee episode and multiple conversations on Facebook over the past few days, we began the conversation in our house about holidays. Sitting here, stuck at home again on another snow/ice day, I posed the question, "As Americans, don’t we commercialize everything?" While this debate started regarding pending Valentine’s Day plans, it actually translates into more holidays than not. What I always find amusing in these conversations is that the historical fact or original tradition is somehow pushed aside to allow a condemnation of a practice that, for the most part, we all participate in.

Dad-I apologize how much you won't like the things I say here, but come one, you gotta admit she's not the sharpest ice pick in the igloo. (you like that folks? see I can pull a Palin and give a well placed shout out at any time too!)

Since you may not know me well, I will let you know that politics is a spectator sport for my family so all of us, in the room, online and via text have been eating this up tonight.

Previously posted at MLW. After several emails, I decided to repost it at DailyKos and TexasKaos. Consider joining our 2000 x $5 monthly campaign...it's all we need to win.

When I met MSOC at YearlyKos, we both cried. In retrospect, I am not sure if she was crying for me, or I her, certainly we share a deep pain that many can not begin to comprehend. For that reason, I thought this the most appropriate place to tell you a story about a soldier I know.

We all knew pretty quickly after the events of 9/11 that this Administration would seek to profit in the Middle East. I would recommend every activist to go back and watch Fahrenheit 911 and see how spot on we all were then--can we get that run on TV this year? Mailed to undecided and independent voters? All these things I knew before the movie even began production but I just never imagined how this illegal war would rip my life apart.

I received a call from a good friend yesterday and could not believe my ears...how many of us have followed full funding of The Ryan White Care Act? Probably none of us and now the children of Texas need our immediate help. Please take a moment today and consider calling one or all of Rep. Barton's offices. His committee is quietly putting a bill thorough that will gut funding and are only giving a few hours today to take public comment. A rumor exists that there is a rule change being attached that will not allow any further change on this bill once its through, no Senators and no Whips, to prevent public outcry from making a difference. My interest is because of what will happen to organizations that need the funding here in my county but this translates all across the Nation.
