Results are coming in for the 12 aldermanic runoff elections in Chicago. The main overall issue has been support for Mayor Richard M. Daley's veto of the "Big Box" minimum wage ordinance. The SEIU and other unions have been giving a lot of money and labor in what has been a fairly successful campaign to knock off key aldermen who supported the veto. Jesse Jackson Jr. has been highest elected official to support the unions' anti_daley efforts.
As some of you might be aware, there was a municipal election today in Chicago. While the city-wide races are not in doubt, there are many exciting aldermanic races as union locals attempt to oust aldermen who voted against the big box store minimum wage ordinance and particularly those who switched positions on the veto override vote. There are also a couple of blood feuds between competing organizations.
