As a cop, my duty is to protect and serve everyone on my beat. It doesn’t matter if someone was young, old, rich, or poor. They are under my protection and the protection of the women and men who serve on the force with me. I believe our government has a similar sacred trust to fulfill with its citizens.
As Americans, we pay into the Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security programs, not with the hope, but with the trust that these programs will be there to support us when we need them. Our government cannot be allowed to break that trust with us.
Yet my opponent and other Republicans across the country want to do just that. In the past two years, we have seen repeated proposals to cut Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
My answer: absolutely not. My campaign is a continuation of the sacred trust I have with the public as an officer of the law.
We can balance the budget without slashing these critical programs, we just need to have the fortitude to stand up for what is right. That includes making sure that corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share.
On the Fourth of July, we took stock of what it truly means to be a citizen of this great country. It means keeping our word and our pact with those who have contributed to a system they expected to be there for them. True patriotism means fulfilling our promises, paying our fair share, and taking cuts off the table.
