Did you cringe when you read that headline? I did writing it.
As you well know, Republicans love to use “Democrat” as a modifier, rather than the grammatical and preferred “Democratic.” They say, “Democrat president,” “Democrat convention,” and “Democrat solutions.” Oh wait, they’d never say those last two words together.
It drives me crazy. Mitt Romney does it, GOP congressional leaders do it, even Fox News reporters and hosts do it.
And part of the reason they do it is that they know it drives us Democrats crazy.
So I’m making a modest proposal that I hope everyone here at Daily Kos will adopt.
Let’s rescue all those lost “-ic” suffixes. If the Republicans are going to drop the “-ic” from “Democatic,” I suggest that we append it to “Republican” every time we use that word.
To wit: “Republicanic presidential candidate Mitt Romney,” “Republicanic Senator McConnell,” etc.
Hey, it even rhymes with "Titanic."
In fact, maybe even better, why not just say, “Republic-ic.” Say that out loud a few times. It’s fun to say. It's very icky.
I believe very strongly we need to save all these lost “-ic” suffixes, and what better way than to hang them on our Republicic opposition?
