The Dallas Citizens Council, a public policy forum for elite conservatives in Dallas, normally doesn't espouse liberal ideas or cheerlead for the Democrats. One Dallas metro blogger describes their typical concerns as "secret fracking contracts, golf courses for the rich on city land and underwater toll roads."
So it was quite the surprise when their president wrote an op-ed piece in support of Medicaid Expansion in Texas. According to the op-ed, the Dallas Citizens Council thoroughly investigated the implications of Medicaid Expansion in Texas, argued it amongst themselves and, after weighing the evidence!, concluded that Perry's refusal is bad for business.
Yeah, one could wish they would argue that refusal of the expansion is bad for people, but nevertheless, for a conservative group to come out in favor of Medicaid Expansion is quite extraordinary. A Dallas Morning News reporter said it was"akin to subletting the Alamo."
Just imagine what the Dallas Citizens Council might conclude after dissecting the most recent CBO report on ACA expenses being considerably less than expected. I'd like to be a fly on that wall.
It's happening folks.
