I didn't want to believe it.
But it's clear that it's happening. Rasmussen has Obama up by just 3 points this morning, which means Mccain had a really great night last night.
I think a few nuggets are really important to remember. First is that he has a sizable lead in early votes. In this particular poll, it's a 9 point lead. Obviously, this stat means that the models might be wrong and Obama really has changed the face of the electorate to bring out those voters who don't typically vote. It could also just be the enthusiasm gap, of course, and Mccain's voters will all vote on Nov. 4th. Still the early voting stats are pretty fantastic.
Also, Obama has the chance to make his case before a huge audience tonight which can help jumpstart his momentum. Mccain will have no such opportunity.
Thirdly, Obama's path to 270, at it's most basic level, is simply Kerry States plus Iowa and Virginia OR Colorado and New Mexico. He has strong leads on all these states. Which means that even if it's not a landslide and we lose Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, etc...
We still win!
Just 6 days to go and I think we just need to keep focused.
