I think Max Cleland is the ultimate choice to be Obama's VP. He represented Georgia as its Secretary of State and Senator, he's a war hero (triple amputee), and served as as Administrator of the Veterans Affairs Department under Carter.
Senator Cleland would help in Georgia (despite losing in 2002 - a terrible year for Dems). Plus, McCain was outspoken against the despicable ads that ran against Cleland comparing him to bin Ladin for opposing efforts to block unionization at Homeland Security. Any McCain attacks on Senator Cleland would not be ripe for flip-flopping charges and would make McCain look quite dishonorable.
Obama is targeting Georgia, and Barr is already draining Republican votes there. Cleland is younger than Nunn, and is more progressive. He wouldn't result in a Republican rising to higher office, as a Bayh, Kaine, or McCaskill pick either might or definitely would, and he also was not in Washington long enough to defeat the 'change' message.
Why has his name not been mentioned?
