My friend Bill McCuen wrote a great piece in the Greenville News last week that truely bears further review about why we need to seek understanding through diplomacy. Speaking from his personal experience of a recent trip to Iran he writes how "Americans need to see 'enemies' faces".
He writes:
My friend is a young English literature graduate student. She loves Chaucer, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Arthur Miller. She wants to understand the meaning of the "American Dream" as it relates to "The Great Gatsby" and "Death of a Salesman."
She likes to hang out with friends, loves her family and thinks the government is trying to make having fun a crime. Her sister suffers depression since their older brother was killed in an automobile accident. Her parents have wrestled with grief and separation due to the trauma of their loss.
Soon my friend Someyah and her family could be dead. That's because they live in Iran.
