Over the next week or so @onethirtyfive will roll out changes to the site that remove code that wasn’t exposed to users but was cluttering up our codebase. We call this “dead code.” He kicks off this spree of deploys tonight. No user should notice any issues with current functionality though.
You might be wondering why we are bothering to remove unused code? Here are a couple of links I like that talk about why removing dead code from a software project is prudent:
Mainly it’s like cleaning out your shed or garage. We’ll have more space to move around and use the space for more useful things than storing junk we no longer use. It also eliminates hazards like when you leave a half eaten sandwich in a box from the last time you moved in your garage attracting rodents to move in and get comfy or you keep around old unstable batteries (or faulty Samsung phones) that may overheat during the summer and explode.
