I live in a small southern town which has lost literally a few thousand jobs in the past few years. It was already struggling before the recession hit. Perhaps it was a stalking horse for the way things all over were to become.

Soon after the stimulus package came on the scene, the Recovery Act signs started appearing along the two lane road(one not terribly overused, at that) that leads from the town square to I-65 some five miles distant. For just a moment, I felt as if something positive was about to happen, perhaps some of the crushing unemployment figures might abate. I thought, way to go! Barak and Joe got our backs here. Perhaps some of the local unemployed might find jobs. In Dec. of 2007 we were already at 9.1 percent, and it has only gone higher since GM closed the Saturn plant at nearby Spring Hill,TN.

Today some of my less optimistic thoughts on the subject were further stoked by the AP's article I have attempted to link to here.

I thought is would be a routine dull Friday evening ED Show It became quite entertaining when Kos kicked the neo cons ass.

Our Kos just left former Congressman Tom Tancredo sputtering and speechless, ultimately disconnecting his mike and fleeing the Ed Show.

Ya got yer Joe Wilsons, and ya got yer Jim Dements(ed), ya got yer Governor Romeo Sanford, and ya got all this teabagging craziness associated with South Carolina. It's not a new thing, its been around for a long time. One merely has to go to Civil War history to find this.....

James Louis Petigru,a native who opposed secession, sadly observed that South Carolina was, "too small to be an independent republic, and too large to be an insane asylum." (Pay attention, Texas, you didn't do so well as a Republic, either!)

See, its not a new thing.

It would seem from all of the trends we see that 1)health care reform may fail completely, or 2)if a bill passes it will be watered down so much as to be ineffective, or 3) and worse be merely a handout to the insurance industry, with a mandate for all citizens to support these greedy and immoral bastards. In this eventuality, I feel the blame should fall squarely on the infamous "BLUE DOGS", those who claim the mantle of Democrat, while voting as a Republican. Many of them seem to be reveling in their power to prevent the Democratic majority in Congress from achieving universal coverage with affordable insurance, and have declared their opposition to a public option. Heaven forbid that a sane, single payer system be devised. The problem this year is not our enemies, it is our so called "friends." I think it is time to prune our "friends" list.
