Over the weekend, my husband and I had the chance to spend most of the day with a friend of ours that we hadn’t seen in several years. He lives nearby (less than an hour drive away), but our schedules usually conflict such that it makes getting together difficult. The stars aligned this past weekend, however, and we spent many hours chatting about books, homes, families, jobs, games, mutual acquaintances, music, cooking, and more. Even though it had been years since we’d last seen each other, the conversation flowed freely and naturally, as if we’d just talked the day before. I’ve noticed I have a few friends like that, where no matter how long since we last visited, the conversation flows naturally without awkwardness or uncomfortable vibes. This has been true as well with people that I’ve only just met for the first time who I first got to know online.
I always thought you were the best
I guess I always will
I always thought that we were blessed
And I feel that way still
Sometimes we took the hard road
But we always saw it through
If I had only one friend left
I'd want it to be you
Sometimes the world was on our side
Sometimes it wasn't fair
Sometimes it gave a helping hand
Sometimes we didn't care
'Cause when we were together
It made the dream come true
If I had only one friend left
I'd want it to be you
Someone who understands me
And knows me inside out
Helps keep me together
And believes without a doubt,
That I could move a mountain
Someone to tell it to
If I had only one friend left
I'd want it to be you
'Cause when we were together
It made the dream come true
If I had only one friend left
I'd want it to be you
Someone who understands me
And knows me inside out
Helps keep me together
And believes without a doubt,
That I could move a mountain
Someone to tell it to
If I had only one friend left
I'd want it to be you
What about you? Do you have friends you can drop into easy conversation with no matter when the last time you saw/spoke to one another? Or do you find such conversations awkward?
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
As always, this is an open thread and nothing is off topic. What do you want to kibitz about tonight?
