I'm surprised that the diary on Bush's executive order suspending the Davis Bacon prevailing wage requirement(for Katrina states), has disappeared. This angered me more than anything else in the last week. Here we have the poorest of the poor in our country trying to regain their self reliance and Bush says they make too much. I'm sure there will be no executive orders on corporate profits from hurricane rebuilding.
I have written to my congressman (R) and two US Senators(R) to ask how this fits in with their
" self reliance " mantra. I hope you will do the same.
The 2003 figures from the Dept. of Labor indicate the following yearly earnings for construction laborers:
Miss. $19,640
AL $20,590
LA $21,440
by contrast the wealty state of WV has a yearly of $27,090 and the positively super rich of MO make $33,020 doing construction labor. So you can understand Marie Antoinette, sorry President Bush, wanting to rein in the extravagant payouts in the Gulf states.
Write the MSM and your congressmen/senators please.
