If anyone is having a rough start to the new year, I’m willing to bet it’s Rep.-elect George Santos. The openly gay MAGA Republican is swimming in controversy, and (somehow) it’s not about being just a Trump supporter, or a gay Republican, or even his defeat of an openly gay Democrat in New York’s 3rd District race, which includes parts of Long Island and Queens. Santos is being investigated on fraud charges in Brazil, accusations that he lied about his mother’s death, and even his religion.
Now, as reported by The Daily Beast, Santos told the outlet he’s moving out of the apartment he’s stayed at with his sister, Tiffany Santos, in Queens. According to the Beast, the owners of the apartment—which she reportedly rented for just over $2,000 a month— asked the Queens County court to move forward with an eviction warrant against the Republican’s sister less than a month before Santos moved his personal belongings and pets into the apartment.
Per the outlet, New York court records suggest his sister has been facing eviction over a failure to pay rent on the unit. At one point in the not-so-distant past, Santos rallied against the city’s eviction moratorium. He claimed his family suffered from loss of rental income on more than a dozen properties, which was, apparently a big old lie.
