When I heard Comey’s testimony, I waited for someone (anyone please!) to expose the flawed logic or the false dichotomy of Comey’s thinking.
I wanted someone to point out to Comey that although he felt he was faced with a choice of “speak or conceal?”, he was imposing upon himself a false choice. His responsibility was only to investigate fairly. That is his job. He said to speak would have been “really bad”. He said to conceal would “have been “catastrophic”. So WHAT! And catastrophic? Really? To whom? You can’t handle the question of how you do your job? His job is not to expose until he has evidence of a crime.
If he had stepped back from his self imposed false choice and focused on what the FBI’s job is, he would have realized that to do his job properly, and fairly, he would proceed by investigating the Weiner laptop contents fairly without prejudice. Prejudice of person, deadline or an election deadline.
Comey has correctly and repeatedly refused to answer questions about whether a certain person is under investigation or not. This affords a person under investigation the fair presumption of innocence. If it is announced that Joe Smith is under investigation, that could severely and adversely affect his life/job. Meanwhile he may ultimately be proven innocent of any wrongdoing. This protection certainly was afforded the investigation of Trump et.al.
Secretary Clinton was NOT afforded this reasonable protection even though Comey constantly espouses his strong belief that all people under investigation by the FBI deserve.
I wish someone had pointed out to Comey that his job was not to “speak or conceal?”, but to investigate fairly (logically that means you shut up unless you have proof of a crime).
I wish someone would have asked Comey, “Given your belief that all people under investigation by the FBI deserve protection from false implications, until you have proof of a crime, do you feel that Secretary Clinton was given fair protection from false implications by your FBI?” (or did you fuck up big time)
Anyway, I just had to post my frustration with what I heard from Comey and what I didn’t hear asked of him.
