A nun with a chainsaw's become a sensation,
Delighting observers across the nation.
A can-do attitude she showed,
Cutting down branches to clear the road.
Bound and determined to do her part,
She had Googled to find how to get it to start.
Unlike the Florida nun, Carmen Hix
Doesn't wear a crucifix,
For she's Jewish, after all.
When Harvey hit she answered the call
From a nearby church to volunteer,
Serving meals and spreading cheer.
Five hundred dollars in food she bought,
Three car-loads' worth from neighbors brought;
A week from work she sacrificed.
But some of the followers of Christ
Working beside her overheard
Her saying from time to time a word
That didn't sound right in that churchly setting.
It was "Shalom." Was she forgetting
She was in a church, where people thump
Their bibles, love Jesus, and vote for Trump?
This turned out to be an omen
Of even worse news: her partner's a woman.
They tattled on her to Reverend Ron,
Who laid down the law: she must be gone.
Unlike the nun, who did not refuse
The chainsaw as a tool to use
Despite the danger it involved,
The Texas bigot preacher resolved
There's no way in hell that he would choose
To do God's work with lesbian Jews,
Too great the risk it would besmirch
The reputation of his church.
Which of the two deserve our praise?
The Lord moves in mysterious ways.
