Sometimes I fantasize what the world would have been like if Oscar Wilde had a twitter account. The twitter wars he’d have, the hashtags…especially in the age of Trump. What can I say, I have a rich fantasy life.
However, we do have great stories, essays, plays, and poems, not to mention the closing argument of his trial for committing homosexual acts, which have preserved some of his wit and personality. There are also some biopics. My personal favorite is the Stephen Fry reading of said closing argument:
I, for one, would love to see a tweet storm from Wilde railing against Trump and his swamp monsters he’s trying to install in power. However, he is of another era, and even though, it’d be fun to see, we have many witty people on Twitter who, in a small way, are feeding into what Oscar Wilde would do today.
