My internet provider is Earthlink. We've been having problems in my neighborhood with DSL for about the past year. It just flickers on and off at times. Perhaps it's because I'm at about the maximum distance from the local phone company switching station.
I have, on a number of occasions, called Earthlink's help number. I have waited. Then I have waited some more. Then I waited a bit more. This I am used to. When I started with Earthlink in 1996 or so, they were small and local. Help calls always went to the "main office" in Pasadena, which is not far. The wait was typically 2 hours. Now it's down to 15 minutes.
The problem is that Earthlink, like so many others, has outsourced the tech support function to India. Some guy or gal answers giving an Americanized name, such as Bob Davis or Abigail Adams. (I kid you not.)
