I'm a fierce critic of President Obama (see my sarcastic sig for instance). I've disagreed with some of the accusations of racism here. I've rolled my eyes at it, in fact. Some of those banned were members who really made me grit my teeth.

But today, some of the diaries have made me slow down. Pause. Try to consider things from another angle.

This diary began as a comment, but it became a bit long. More beneath the orange turd-doodle ...

Lately, there's been growing concern about the site's lack of moderation and about an apparent rise in blatantly HR-able posts receiving recommendations. If there's no site moderation and we're left with a "wild west" atmosphere, is it time for the DKOS user base to step up and provide some deputies?

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to run or manage this idea. So, I thought I'd at least throw it out into the DKOS stream to see if anyone else wants to run with it. I'd certainly contribute as best I could.

Our town hasn't had a good coffee shop in years. There's a Corporate Coffee shop in town, sure, but it's over-priced and not very good. That's why we were really excited when a local Businessman said that he was opening a new shop. It was going to serve high quality coffee, procured through fair trade, and sold at a reasonable price. The atmosphere of the shop, he said, would be pleasant - in contrast to the loud, sterile Corporate Coffee shop.

We knew that all businesses experience their ups and downs, especially in their first years. But we were willing to support the new shop in whatever way we could...

Today I had a friend over to help with some repairs. He was the general contractor for a construction crew. He has been unemployed since the 2008 recession. He is in his mid to late 50s, I would guess. I insisted on paying him his normal, hourly rate. He laughed and said that it was funny how ordinary people always wanted to pay his fair rate and it was the people with million-dollar homes that would try to push him down another $5 per hour.

The work only took about an hour and afterward we began to chat in the kitchen. What he said has stayed with me.

Short diary. But this just made my jaw drop.

Voinovich was comparing Ahmadinejad to Hitler and making fun of his name. And then he dropped this:

"I don't believe that as long as he's there that we're ever going to solve Iraq," Voinovich said. "There seems to be a very deliberate, premeditated effort on their part to expand their influence in that area and this nuclear issue is just part of it."

So that's it. That's how they're going to pull us into it. Will anyone be surprised if our intelligence makes "shocking" discoveries of Iran's support for unrest in Iraq? Suddenly, the Right has a good, invade-able scapegoat for their failure in Iraq.

Terrifying.

That's right, according to Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, filibustering Democrats are terrorists -

So, to everyone moaning and whining today, cheer up. The Cheney thing has slipped entirely off CNN's main pages and is even hard to find on the politics page. Instead, we have Kerry picks up Ohio, New Hampshire.
