I've heard the estimates, probably you have too -- where people say this is going to cost hundreds of millions, maybe even a trillion dollars or more. Naturally, I'm a little concerned, being a taxpayer on the hook for, oh, 1 trillion divided by 138 million = roughly $7,250 (that's a heckuva tax, Grammie) but hey, what's a few thousand between friends?
Nonetheless, despite my easygoing ways, I was reading this diary with the text of the Wall Street Bailout Act and I ran across this:
Sec. 10. Increase in Statutory Limit on the Public Debt.
Subsection (b) of section 3101 of title 31, United States Code, is amended by striking out the dollar limitation contained in such subsection and inserting in lieu thereof $11,315,000,000,000.
And reading this, I says to myself, Self, I know we has a lots o' debt, but without context this number means nothing.
