I've spent much of the past few days feeling stunned.
I was stunned by McCain's choice of Sarah Palin for Vice President, first because I didn't know who she was, and more so after I found out that this 72 year old cancer survivor had chosen for Vice-President someone with just 20 months experience as a Governor of a state with a population of 670,000 (smaller than San Jose, CA, Jacksonville, FL, Columbus, OH, or Memphis, TN) and who before that had served as mayor of a town with a population (at that time) of 6,500 -- smaller than the capacity of most stadiums, fewer people than attend some large high schools -- a woman who had attended 5 colleges over 6 years before graduating with a degree in journalism. I grew more stunned as McCain and his surrogates touted this choice as, not only qualified and ready to be President of the United States, but more qualified to lead than Barack Obama, a United States Senator and former Illinois state sentator who was a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, former president of the Harvard Law Review, a community organizer on Chicago's south side, a civil rights attorney, and constitutional law professor.
And so I waited for the media to call the McCain campaign on this outrageous hyperbole.
