Unbelievable as it may be, CNN’s news site is pushing an ‘opinion’ piece entitled “Zelensky could win big by gambling on Trump” whose whole point is that Ukraine’s President should agree with Trump to intervene in the 2020 Presidential election in favor of Trump:
“Zelensky, for his part, could do a big favor for Putin by digging into whatever Giuliani might want to help his client's presidential re-election effort.”
www.cnn.com/...
The incentive given for Trump is blatantly stated as destroying Biden’s election chances as a quid pro quo: “Now, Ukraine appears to have become at least as critically important to Donald Trump, for a whole different set of reasons. It is here, Trump seems to believe, that he can pin charges of corruption on the son of Vice President Joe Biden, a Democratic candidate he clearly fears.”
And the article does not care that Biden is innocent of any wrongdoing: “The allegation against the Bidens has been debunked by respected fact-checking teams at news organizations including CNN. At least one former official in the prosecutor's office said the investigation into Burisma had already been shelved by the time Joe Biden was pressuring Ukraine to replace its top prosecutor, who was unpopular among many Western leaders due to concerns regarding corruption. It's also unclear if Hunter Biden was a focus of that investigation when it was occurring.”
And the article specifically says one motivating reason is Trump would then be free of constraints by Congress and the American people, and could deliver the goods to Putin on his end of the bribe: “If Trump wins the 2020 election, he'll be freed from any need to win the support of voters. Trump would also presumably be free to move toward lifting sanctions against Russia, no matter how strenuously Congress -- and the rest of the western alliance -- might protest.”
I wouldn’t ordinarily care about the author, presuming it would be a partisan hack. But the piece says it was written by “David A. Andelman,” who is claimed to be an award winning book author who “was formerly a foreign correspondent for The New York Times and CBS News in Europe and Asia.”
To speak plainly, CNN is pushing an article that is encouraging Ukraine to play ball in a bribery scheme to undermine the 2020 Presidential election so Trump can destroy his political opponent and free himself of any restraints from Congress or voters. And this is is so even if the political opponent did nothing wrong
This is beyond despicable. CNN is aiding and abetting impeachable, criminal and treasonous conduct, and pushing an article encouraging such conduct on its front page to influence Ukraine to get on with it.
And CNN’s conduct in giving prominence to this encouragement is itself getting no notice in our complicit media, but the signal is surely being received in Ukraine.
We need to call out all in the media and elsewhere who are helping to destroy what is left of our democracy. The stench of our slide to autocracy is growing each day.
