We have too many people and too few resources.
In fact not only will our economy not get better, it is going to get worse, much worse.
According to Wikipedia the population of the world was one billion in 1804. Today we are close to 7 billion. It took mankind thousands upon thousands of years to reach one billion humans and two hundred years later we have 6 billion more.
The obvious and likely explanation for this human population explosion is that the carrying capacity of the human species increased. The obvious and likely explanation for this increase in carrying capacity is human's utilization of fossil fuels, especially crude oil.
Once one accepts the obvious conclusion that our planet's 7 billion people are dependent on crude oil for sustenance, it becomes painfully clear that peak oil is a very serious problem. This is because it is logical that if crude oil supply dwindles, the human carrying capacity of the earth will fall. It now follows immediately that our world is seriously overpopulated.
