Lest we sit back and gloat about how we are "winning" the war of the shutdown, I have some bad news.
When first this began, there was a glut of media report who all blamed the GOP and TP in all their various incarnations.
Yet, in SPITE of that, in poll after poll, the "blame game" differential is narrowing.
To be sure, by a paltry 5%, the public blames the GOP more than the Democrats, but that differential was over twice as high a few days ago.
Let there be NO mistake. The GOP from the start was terrified of be blamed for the shutdown, and to the extent that they could, they fired back to try and prevent any more bleeding than necessary.
The Democrats to the extent that they have been fighting back, have been relying on Obama to carry that weight. Occasionally, Reid and Pelosi would add comments to the press, but I have heard far more GOP voices than Democratic ones in the online media channels I follow.
I'm not sure how many of you are a member of Politix, but it is a website designed to track and host online debates about the issues of the day. For the most part, it seems to be a mostly socially liberal, politically conservative site.
For example, polls on gay marriage or marijuana legalization poll far higher in favor than any publicly posted poll I've seen. However, there is little love for Obama or the Democrats.
I invite you to change that. The current poll that inspired me to write this diary is one on responsibility for who shut down the government. You may need to be a member to participate. But I invite you to help change the dynamic.
Currently the poll is 52% blaming Obama and the Dems, 25% Boehner and the GOP, and roughly 15% Cruz and the TP.
This is outrageous!
I'd be less concerned, but now Huffington Post is reporting that the public is blaming everyone just about equally.
This too, is intolerable.
We can help. Not just on social media, but on news sites, especially local ones and large national ones like CNN, LA Times, and the Washington Post, we need to have a stronger presence. THIS is where opinions are molded. Yeah Facebook and Twitter are fun, but your contacts are mostly people who ALREADY agree with you.
We need to spread the word.
Obama, our agenda, and our party depend on us winning this battle.
To your keyboards, to your battle stations!
