On April 6th Fox News and Glenn Beck announced that his program would be "transitioning" off the air. Reminds me a little of when Charlie Sheen was transitioned off of Two and a Half Men. And so, as the chalk dust settles, it is time to look ahead.

Under the Republican leadership of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce there is a whole new approach to the environment and the role of government to protect citizens from recalcitrant polluters. The new GOP majority has unabashedly sold out to the big energy corporations by accepting more than a quarter of a million dollars from those whom they are supposed to be regulating.

Hannah Giles, the partner of right-wing propagandist James O'Keefe, who assumed the role of a prostitute in a series of videos designed to smear ACORN, is very upset about a documentary that she says intends to "shape a narrative that will change public opinion through the use of deception." This critique will surely go down in the Annals of Irony with Colonel Sanders' denunciation of animal cruelty.

Once again the evil winds of Fox News are blowing across the land and threatening to whip up a Perfect Storm composed of nothing but disinformation and unfounded fears. As part of their all-to-predictable criticism of President Obama's efforts to prevent carnage in Libya and to support democratic reformers, the Fox brigades have unleashed a torrent of lies and irrational arguments that amount to siding with Qaddafi against American interests.

As usual, Glenn Beck is leading the charge with his typically factless assault and incitement to panic. The target this time is Samantha Power, the Senior Director of Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights for the National Security Council. Just as he did with Van Jones last year, Beck has begun a barrage of invective aimed at slandering Power. Day after day he repeatedly denounces her while playing a context-deprived video in an endless loop.

The New York Times published a disturbing article yesterday about how giant, multinational corporations are robbing the U.S. treasury (and people) by exploit tax loopholes and the political clout to obtain them. The marquee revelation in the article is that General Electric, who made $14 billion dollars worldwide last year ($5 billion domestically), paid ZERO dollars in taxes.

But guess What? They aren't the only one.

Defund Fox News A few weeks ago video pimp and propagandist, James O'Keefe, released heavily edited and deliberately deceptive video that purported to expose an institutional bias at National Public Radio. It was quickly debunked and denounced as a fraud by analysts across the political spectrum, including those at Glenn Beck's web site, The Blaze.

Nevertheless, partisans in Congress and agenda-driven conservatives in the press continue to behave as if the video were legitimate. The House of Representatives, on a party-line vote, passed a resolution to defund NPR - a purely symbolic gesture as the Senate is not likely to concur.

It should come as no surprise that James O'Keefe is an unethical liar who produces deliberately deceptive videos to smear his political opponents. That's been proven on many occasions. What's surprising is that now even Glenn Beck's web site, The Blaze, is confirming this after having analyzed O'Keef's latest videos attacking National Public Radio.

Scott Baker, Editor-in-Chief of The Blaze, published a fairly in-depth review of O'Keefe's scam wherein he compared segments of the edited version to the original unedited source material. What he found he described in his conclusion as "editing tactics that seem designed to intentionally lie or mislead about the material being presented."
