I went to Harriman for Christmas at my sister's house. We were running late, so I didn't get to go to the actual site of the Swan Break or the Emory River. I was able to visit the Clinch River briefly downstream of the break (this would have been downstream of the wier on the water). I saw no signs of workers out or warnings on the lake.
The break occurred in the Emory River, which flows a couple miles before emptying into the Clinch. The Clinch goes a very short distance before emptying into the (large) Tennessee River. the rivers here are wide and slow-flowing, so there is ample opportunity for the ash to deposit in the riverbed as sediment (map here: map of emory river. Note how the Emory river flares widely..this is because this is a good fishing-boating area, this is lake country. Note that water levels are much higher than normal due to rain, and will be running faster.
