Salon, in its desperate attempt to bury Nader quickly, is starting to make me like him again. This interview of Nader by David Talbot (editor-in-chief) doesn't reflect all that well on Nader, but it reflects pretty poorly on Talbot.
I'm not a Nader fan anymore. I plan to support Kerry, and I really hope Nader plans to drop out of the race by election day. However, I also don't think there's any harm in having him in the race at this stage. Every hour of coverage he gets often cuts into time that would be filled by a Republican.
There's a lot of outrage, outrage I say, that Nader is taking money from (gasp) Republicans, and taking cash advances from Rupert Murdoch. The people who are outraged forget why big donors are often bad; they are buying influence. But does anyone really believe that a) Nader will be elected, and that b) he will be beholden to his donors should he get elected? If not, then shut up about his donors already. He's taking bad money and making it good. It's like stealing money from the mob and donating it to a charity.
