So this morning I stopped into my local Starbucks for some coffee. A group of old white guys sitting there in a group not far from me and I got curious about what they thought about the nomination of Paul Ryan for VP. So I lobbed a question at them:
Me: Sorry to interrupt but I was just wondering what you guys thought of the Paul Ryan VP pick?
(Different old white guys answered questions, but for the purposes of this diary I'll just call them collectively OWG.)
OWG: It's Great!
Me: Why?
OWG: Because its great!
Me: But why is it great?
OWG: Because they're going to get this economy back on track
Me: The Ryan budget doesn't do that. It actually raises the deficit.
OWG: Where did you hear that?
Me: Well it was scored by the CBC; its a fact.
OWG: Well maybe billions of dollars instead of trillions (harumphing agreement from other OWG's)
Me: What about medicare?
OWG: It's not going to do anything to my medicare.
Me: What? What about your kids? That's pretty selfish.
OWG: What do I care. There has to be changes, where's the money coming from.
Other OWG: Listen, if you worked, do you work?
Me: Yes I work, I've worked my entire life.
OWG: Well if you owned a business....
Me: I've owned a business for 16 years.
OWG: Well you couldn't own a business
Me: Why, because I'm a woman?
OWG: Well you didn't build it. (Sarcasm) "We" built it.
Me: Yes you did. By providing roads and bridges and an educational system I was able to get to a place where I could own a business.
Old White guys picking up their coffee and leaving.
OWG: Ryan's going to be great.
Me: The republicans are going to get crushed.
