The Republican National Committee will
launch a major negative attack on Democratic presidential
candidate Wesley Clark according to a story in the Republican
leaning Washington Times. Clark, who is in second place in
national polls and in New Hampshire tracking polls, will
apparently be the new target since Dean's loss in Iowa. Althought
previous attempts by the RNC to smear Clark have been strongly refuted
by media watchdog groups the Times piece indicates Clark will
now face the "same level" of dirt that Dean was
subjected to.
Opponents who had been digging for dirt on Democratic
presidential hopeful Howard Dean have turned their attention to
Wesley Clark since Mr. Dean's poor Iowa caucuses performance, and
they say they have found plenty of material. "He will be
subjected to the same level of scrutiny as Howard Dean was,"
said Christine Iverson, spokeswoman for the Republican National
Committee.
