From launch of coverage through Aug. 27th, total Mayday PAC independent expenditures have favored Republicans by 60%. This is the third consecutive week of net Republican advantage. Please see this introduction
for discussion of methods and motivation underlying the Advantage Gauge.
The story this week remains much as I reported
in an update on Aug. 23rd: according to FEC records
, this week Lawrence Lessig's Mayday PAC spent $461,000 on TV ads supporting right-wing nutjob Jim Rubens [R; NH-Sen], and $34,300 in direct mail advertising for Ruben Gallego [D; AZ-07]. This brings 'non-partisan' Mayday PAC's total spending to date to:
Advantage Republicans: 60% (up from 11% Advantage Republicans last week).
In other Mayday news this week:
- Gallego won his primary battle for the open AZ-07 seat by 11 points on Tuesday. Mayday's Republican spinmeister and Grigori Rasputin impersonator, Mark "Mission Accomplished" McKinnon, predictably declared this a brilliant victory for Mayday, despite the fact that Gallego was already up 6 points by his own pollsters' reckoning as long ago as May, before Mayday even entered the race.
- Not exactly breaking news, but news to me: According to ThinkProgress, Mayday endorsee Jim Rubens in New Hampshire signed the Koch brothers' and Americans For Prosperity PAC's climate-denial pledge just a couple of months ago. Talk about "ironic:" both Lessig and the Koch brothers successfully shaking down the same candidate to say what they want to hear.
I think I just threw up in my mouth.
Disgusted Mayday PAC donors who have finally seen enough can request refunds by tweeting #LessigWTF or by writing them here.
The Mayday Advantage Gauge is updated weekly on Thursday mornings.
(Tips are nice, but rec's are better for getting the word out)
