Okay, let me explain something here: this is real life. It is not the Apprentice or one of his beauty pageants. You don’t decide on a Supreme Court justice based on who wins you over in a last-minute boardroom interview. You do it based on an assessment of the person's entire career and record in the law, his or her demonstrated jurisprudential vision and sense of judgment.
In other words, if Trump hasn’t made his decision as to the nomination for a lifetime appointment yet, he is being reckless in how he’s making it, having bound himself to an announcement tonight.
And if he has made his decision but is putting the finalists through this process to build “suspense,” as is being reported, then this is gratuitous humiliation of a runner-up who—whatever awful things we deservedly think of him ideologically—is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect, and not as a television prop.
What an awful, unfit person the president is.
