Trump’s Advisors and their Nazi Counterparts — PART ONE
The FIRST IN A SERIES IN WHICH I COMPARE TRUMP’S GOONS TO HITLER’S
Michael Flynn and Hermann Goering bear more than a physical resemblance. Both were decorated military men who lept into politics with fanatical views - and earned the trust of a dictatorial leader for their ruthlessness in support of him.
Goering infamously commented on Hitler’s political opponents in 1933 (six years before war broke out in Europe), upon founding the Gestapo (whose control he later passed to Heinrich Himmler):
“My measures will not be crippled by any bureaucracy. Here I don't have to worry about Justice; my mission is only to destroy and to exterminate; nothing more.”
Flynn’s take no prisoners approach was eerily similar. Among various blatant attempts to destroy Donald Trump’s political opponents, Flynn “retweeted false accusations that Clinton is involved with child sex trafficking and has "secretly waged war” on the Catholic Church, as well as charges that Obama is a “jihadi” who “laundered” money for Muslim terrorists.”
Fortunately, for our democracy, Flynn rise was upended by his foolish and crass decision to take money from Russia and Turkey in apparent violation of Federal law. As CNN reported in April, 2017 even Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz appeared appalled at Flynn’s blatant lawlessness: "I see no data to support the notion that Gen. Flynn complied with the law," Chaffetz said in a remarkable turn of phrase.
"As a former military officer, you simply cannot take money from Russia, Turkey or anybody else. And it appears as if he did take that money. It was inappropriate. And there are repercussions for the violation of law."
So how will this all end?
- Goering poisoned himself in prison after being convicted and sentenced to death by hanging at Nuremberg.
- Despite Donald Trump’s attempt to convince then FBI Director Comey to “let it go”, Flynn’s fate apparently now rests with Robert Mueller and an
Alexandria, Virginia Washington, DC grand jury. We may find out as soon as Monday if that is likely to happen
The bottom line is that Flynn is in deep doo doo. He may yet join Goering in disgrace AND in prison.
