This diary is about my fundraising effort for AIDS Walk Austin, but if you know me, you know that I usually use music in these diaries, so: there has been a lot of “us” and “them” lately. “We” are good and pure, “they” are awful. This is not true. Neither statement is true. We are here to elect more & better Democrats — because we believe they will do better for our country & our world. We want things to get better — we know things can get better. Please, can we be good to each other? AIDS Walk Austin benefits agencies in Austin that work to make the world better. They do things like feed people with a food bank, and even home cooked meals for people who are too ill to cook for themselves. There’s a dental clinic, because people living with HIV & AIDS have particular dental needs. There’s the Wright House Wellness Center — their slogan is “caring for mind, body & spirit since 1988”. And others, so — here’s an opportunity to do a good thing, that does nothing but help people. This is the 30th year of the Walk & I’ve done every year.
We're not separate from each other -- the people who these agencies serve, they're us. And there is no "them" to do the helping, there's only us. Really, truly, if we don’t help, there is no help. And making the lives of people with AIDS better really does make our lives better. If our neighbors do better, our community does better, and we do better. Please donate at my AIDS Walk Austin page, and let's do some helping.
and of course, I need the song (yes, I am a silly U2 fangirl)
Oh — the Walk page has a feature where they have us lip synch to a bit of a song, if you go to my page you can see my hamming it up to 2 songs so far. I’m going to do another tomorrow. You get 1 guess what the song will be & what snippet I’ll use.
