The Mineral Museum on the campus of Montana Tech in Butte has a display of copper minerals from Bisbee, Arizona. Bisbee, known as the Queen of the Copper Camps, was founded in 1877 and is known for its beautiful copper minerals such as cuprite and brightly colored malachite and azurite. In 1975, mining operations—both open pit and underground—came to an end. The mines produced more than 8 billion pounds of copper.
