I Wear Adult Diapers! (So What?)
OK, I admit that was a bit click-baity, and apologies to anyone who thought Daily Kos has become a fetish site. But…I do wear them, and this is why I am telling you this.
I recently posted a diary in which I mentioned that, because of a Vietnam War/Agent Orange connected disability, I went through a Radical Prostatectomy/Lymph Node Dissection that has left me both impotent and incontinent. I had a very hard time adjusting to this, although this surgery has – hopefully, anyway – saved my life. (Like any cancer, this could come back later.) Here’s a link to that diary if you haven’t already read it: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/3/25/1751921/-Vote-Against-Another-War-Or-Be-Complicit-In-It?_=2018-03-25T05:15:17.828-07:00
Two years ago, I posted a diary just before Memorial Day that was about honoring veterans on that day; not just by saying “Thank you for your service” but by thinking about how we can put an end to this constant parade of veterans who serve in needless wars. Here’s that link: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/5/30/1532613/-Memorial-Day-2016-A-Vietnam-Veteran-s-View
After I published that most recent diary that mentioned I was back in diapers a friend to whom I had sent the link asked me why I “revealed” this detail about my situation, assuming I would be embarrassed to tell the whole world – or at least the Daily KOS world – that I am now wearing these. I was embarrassed about this, initially at least. But then I was “bitch slapped” by another disabled veteran on a support group I am working through this issue with. Here’s what he said to me, condensed:
“You have spent a lot of time recently at VA hospitals and clinics, right?”
“Well, yeah. Too much time in fact.”
“Ever see another veteran there who is using a walker or crutches because s/he lost a leg or other limb?”
“Well, yeah. I have. Of course.”
“Ever see another veteran there who uses a white cane or who has a Guide Dog or assistant because s/he has been made blind?”
“Yeah, more than a few I guess.”
“Ever see anyone in a motorized chair because s/he is a paraplegic?”
“I’m beginning to see your point.”
I wear Adult Diapers because I am incontinent due to Agent Orange related cancer surgery. If I didn’t wear them I would wake up in a wet bed every morning like I did as a kid (primary enuresis as a boy) and I would be wetting my pants all day, every day. But I don’t need a prosthetic device. I don’t need a cane or a guide dog or an assistant. I am not confined to a wheelchair. I just need to wear diapers.
And, considering what others are going through, I am one of the lucky ones.
In a couple of months, we will, again, observe Memorial Day and as we prepare for that weekend – as I said two years ago – it is not just about bar-b-ques and family picnics and fireworks. It is about those who have died and those who have suffered great loss while serving in our Armed Forces. And it is about resisting the fake “Call to Arms” currently being drummed in the media by one who, himself, concocted a fake medical condition (bone spurs) to get out of making the sacrifices he is demanding of others. My medical condition, unlike his, is real; and it was honorably incurred.
Yeah, I am wearing diapers now because of my service. So what? But it is Donald Trump who is the self-centered toddler who should be in diapers and who would, with the encouragement of people like John Bolton, create more veterans like me, and worse, for no purpose.
Resist, people of America. Resist. End this spoiled toddler’s fantasy so that the men and women who do serve honorably and well today can be recognized this coming Memorial Day for who and what they are, and for what they do with honor and selfless commitment; not for what his fantasies would have them do or be. They deserve better than that.
