NPR is reporting that after creating a humanitarian crisis, our white supremacist in chief has made it official—the United States will no longer be a part of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Nikki Haley announced the official decision alongside Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
"I want to make it crystal clear that this step is not a retreat from human rights commitments," Haley told the media. "On the contrary, we take this step because our commitment does not allow us to remain a part of a hypocritical and self-serving organization that makes a mockery of human rights."
It is not a surprising move as rumors that Trump would pull us out of the U.N. have swirled around for weeks. But like everything with Trump and this administration, the timing could not be more perfect in exposing our country for being one ginormous human rights violator. An important thing to note here is that Trump’s decision is the logical conclusion of Republican leadership since George W. Bush refused to become a member of the council at its establishment in 2006.
