So, it appears a fake Washington Post look-alike was distributed around the D.C. area in the past 12 hours or so, and there’s all sorts of speculation as to who is behind it and whether it’s legitimate satire.
Here are my answers:
1) It’s legitimate satire. If you read it, it’s clearly satire, but with a serious political edge.
2) I think it’s people behind the #MeToo movement (especially after reading it) and perhaps it came out timed with the women’s march.
3) It weirdly got marked as “phishing” very quickly, although there’s no phishing in it. You don’t have to enter any information at all, it came from HTTPS sites, and after screening them locally through a few different virus programs, the PDFs are fine.
So, to the meat! Or falafel! Or whatever you eat!
Here’s the full PDF of the fake WaPo that was distributed: drv.ms/…
Here’s the hinted-at “Action Guide” advertised at the bottom on the front page of the fake edition: drv.ms/…
Note that the full thing is around 20MB, so it may take a minute or two to download, depending on your connection speed. The action guide is less than a MB, so it should be fairly instant.
