Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley is endorsing fellow Massachusetts Democrat Sen. Elizabeth Warren for president. Given that other members of the Squad, including progressive Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib” endorsed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, many have been eager to see who Pressley would endorse.
Pressley is one of the highest-profile endorsements Warren has received so far, and many are speculating that it could give the senator an important boost with black voters.
Pressley announced her endorsement in a Twitter video, which is quickly going viral.
“You've all heard about the senator’s plans but here's the thing: The plans are about power—who has it, who refuses to let it go, and who deserves more of it,” Pressley says in the above video. “For Elizabeth and for me, power belongs in the hands of the people. That's why she's fighting for fundamental change that restores power to those who've been left behind, and centers those who've never had access to it in the first place.”
As Astead Herndon of The New York Times pointed out, Pressley was a surrogate for Hillary Clinton in 2016. NBC News reports that Pressley will campaign with Warren in North Carolina this week.
