Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions confirmed Thursday that he’s running for his old Senate seat in Alabama—with a video that is truly a sight to behold.
Remember, Donald Trump has constantly attacked and humiliated Sessions—as witnessed by this comment during an interview with the extremely rightwing Daily Caller.
“You look at what’s happening over at the Justice Department, now we have a great attorney general. Whereas before that, with Jeff Sessions, it was a disaster. Just a total disaster. He was an embarrassment to the great state of Alabama,” Trump told former adviser Sebastian Gorka in an interview published in the Daily Caller.
Still, even after being called an “embarrassment” to his state and a” total disaster”—and worse—Sessions still obediently grovels and pays homage to his dear leader in the 30-second ad, entitled “Great Job.”
Despite the promise of the title, Sessions makes no mention of any jobs he’s done or the jobs he plans to do. He does not mention any of his policy stances, or what he’d do if re-elected to represent the Heart of Dixie. He doesn’t even list his past accomplishments … unless you count his pride in never uttering a “cross word” against Trump.
Here’s a transcript!
“When I left President Trump’s cabinet, did I write a tell-all book? No. Did I go on CNN and attack the president? Nope. Have I said a cross word about our president? Not one time, and I’ll tell you why.
First, that would be dishonorable. I was there to serve his agenda, not mine. Second, the president’s doing a great job … for America AND Alabama, and he has my strong support.”
That’s one humiliating way to launch a campaign, but it serves as the latest proof that the Republican party continues to be nothing more than a cult of Trump, with nothing left to offer but a promise to blindly follow their leader.
