From VoteVets:
VoteVets, the nation’s largest political action committee that supports liberal veterans for public office, announced its presidential endorsement for South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg Wednesday.
The endorsement, the first in the progressive group’s history, could serve as another boost for Buttigieg, a former Navy officer who served in Afghanistan.
“We need a candidate who will win. Bar none, Pete gives us the best shot at doing just that. It is time to rally around him, and stop the walking, talking national security threat that is Donald Trump.”
Pete gives us the “best shot” at beating Trump???? How dare they!!!! Why, just yesterday kos called Pete a “small-liberal-college-town mayor who thinks he deserves a promotion to the presidency”. Um, yeah — it’s called the Audacity of Hope. Remember?
I’ve been saying for some time that I’m a single issue voter: Whoever looks like the strongest candidate to bury tRump in a landslide that gets us back a majority in the Senate and more House seats gets my vote. And I have decided: Pete Buttigieg has my vote. I think Pete is the strongest candidate to rid us of the scourge of Trump and Moscow Mitch precisely because he is “just” a small city mayor who thinks, and is not a creature of Washington.
I’m in my late 60s — yeah, OK Boomer. But to rip off an insurance company TV commercial: I know a thing or two because I’ve seen a thing or two. I remember in early 1976 reading a newspaper article about this peanut farmer from Georgia who had the audacity to run for President and thinking “hmmm, this guy just could win”. He did. I remember in early 1992 reading about this Governor of a southern flyover state having the audacity to run against the then wildly popular George Herbert Walker Bush, and thinking “hmmm, this guy just could win”. He did, twice. And I remember in early 2008 reading about this guy who just 4 years earlier was an unknown state legislator. And he was a black dude, son of an immigrant, with a funny sounding name. I remember thinking “Hmmm, this dude has the audacity to think he could be elected President??? This guy just could win”. He did, twice.
So here we are, almost 2020, and this small midwest city mayor, son of immigrants, with a funny sounding name, AND the dude is even gay!!! And he has the audacity to think he can be elected President of the United States of America??? Yes, he does. Yes, so do I.
Pete for America!
