Rep. Devin Nunes is taking a break from suing his Twitter cow to send eight criminal referrals to Attorney General William Barr, and what a match the two men are. This should be a chance for them to really join forces in their shared mission to cover for Donald Trump and make justice partisan.
Nunes told Fox News that five of the referrals “are what I would call straight up referrals—so just referrals that name someone and name the specific crimes,” those crimes being lying to Congress, misleading Congress, and leaking classified information. Next, “There are three [referrals] that I think are more complicated,” Nunes said, where “complicated” presumably means “made the hell up,” considering who this is coming from. He continued: “So on the first one, is FISA abuse and other matters. We believe there was a conspiracy to lie to the FISA court, mislead the FISA court by numerous individuals that all need to be investigated and looked at that, and we believe the [relevant] statute is the conspiracy statute. The second conspiracy one is involving manipulation of intelligence that also could ensnarl many Americans.” So this translates to Nunes continuing to make war on the intelligence community on Trump’s behalf.
And finally, “The third is what I would call a global leak referral”—war on the media.
This is what justice would look like in Trump’s Republican Party, and specifically in the hands of a man so thin-skinned he sued a Twitter cow for being mean to him. But since Nunes is sending the referrals to an attorney general hand-picked by Donald Trump to make Donald Trump happy, they can’t just be dismissed as the nonsense they are.
