Another day, another Republican facing charges of fraud. This time it is Georgia’s state insurance and safety fire commissioner, Jim Beck. TV station Fox 5 in Atlanta reports that Beck is facing 38 felony charges of mail fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering.
The indictment alleges Beck defrauded a state-established insurance company by helping set up fake companies to produce fraudulent invoices.
Beck is also accused of involving the Georgia Christian Coalition in the fraud scheme.
In total, the indictment alleges Beck used fraudulent schemes to embezzle more than $2 million between 2013 and 2018.
Beck is a former insurance lobbyist and has long represented the Georgia Christian Coalition, which a Grand Jury determined he used to commit fraud.
This isn’t the first accusation of fraud against Beck. In 2018, he resigned from the Georgia Underwriting Association after an investigation revealed he was billing his part-time position as a full-time job. Incredibly, a Republican who rejected Medicaid expansion in Georgia said he held on to two full-time jobs because his wife needed the health insurance for a pre-existing condition. THESE PEOPLE! Incredibly, even after the damning report had hit the news, Beck narrowly defeated Democrat Janice Laws in the election for insurance commissioner in November 2018. And this is what the people of Georgia elected: a full-time fraud.
