We live out in the country, an as such, it’s not unusual for us to observe lots of wildlife traipsing through our backyard. There are the ordinary creatures, of course—the squirrels, the rabbits, the groundhogs, the damned deer. More unusual are when we see an opossum or a skunk crossing the yard, and we have seen flocks of turkeys migrating through at various times of year.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve had a new visitor: a red fox. It has come coursing through the back, weaving back and forth as it goes. Hubby saw it cross the road once while driving. It’s been surprising to me since I’ve always had the impression that foxes tend to be quite shy and avoid human activity—but perhaps this one hasn’t noticed the humans i the house?
Anyway, this morning I caught a glimpse of the fox again, only I noticed something else as well. There was a second fox, this one much smaller than the first one, and jumping around like a puppy. So our fox is a mama! I think today might have been the first time the young’n has been let out of the hole! It was such a delight to see those two, and I hope we get to see them again.

This comment was posted too late last night for inclusion, but I think it needs more eyes even if people see it too late to recommend it tonight.
In Dartangan's post about the utter importance of protecting (and expanding) reproductive rights, teresahill produced a righteous rant about just how difficult pregnancy is, and early motherhood to boot, in ways that the forced-birthers want to make sure we disregard.
Several of us encouraged her to make it a freestanding post, and I hope she does.
From susans:
This surely would have been a Top Comment here. From commenter dianne at PZ Myer’s blog Pharyngula, writing about forced birth.
“You are far too nice,” the medical oncology SWAT team says, putting on their chemo-proof gloves. “We, however, have a long experience in dealing with unwanted cell proliferation and a vast knowledge of the effects of unwanted cell growth.”
Nine months of low dose 5FU should simulate both pregnancy induced nausea and pregnancy induced immunosuppression reasonably well. We may need to add a little something to get the fatigue right, though. Cis-platin now…
