Split Rock Lighthouse is a museum operated by the Minnesota State Historical Society adjacent to a state park operated by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. It’s located on the North Shore of Lake Superior, 20 miles north of Two Harbors, about a 50 minute drive from Duluth, MN. The lighthouse was built is 1910 by the U.S. Lighthouse Service a few years after a devastating November storm that wrecked nearly 30 ships and resulted in loss of life.
In addition to the lighthouse which you can tour with paid admission, there is a visitor’s center, and other buildings and the lighthouse keeper’s restored home. The state park has trails, a picnic area and a campground.
