Senator Warren was one of several candidates to attend the Frank LaMere Native American forum today. She specifically addressed her “ancestry issue”, and this is the first time that I, at least, have heard it address it in this way:
She directly stated that she had heard the stories about her ancestry from her family, and believed them until she took the DNA test. She admitted it was wrong, and apologized for anyone she offended.
This went over well:
I think this is going to be the right way to handle the eventual ‘Pocahontas’ chants that will come from the right if (when) she is our nominee. One of the other attendees has it right here:
Personally, I think this is the right approach. It won’t stop the opposition from using it anyway, nothing will do that, but it feels genuine, and so does the best at robbing it of power for as many people as possible. The MAGA crowd would froth at the mouth over it no matter what, but most others would see this as a non-issue now.
She, of course, also discussed her plans to fully honor U.S. treaties, as well as expanding tribal criminal jurisdiction.
